For Immediate Release: Free Will Baptist Bible College

January 20, 2010

Grammy Nominations Touch FWBBC Student

NASHVILLE, TN—The 52nd annual Grammy © Awards set for January 31 in Los Angeles at Staples Center involve a junior Missions major at Free Will Baptist Bible College. Matthew Munsey, 25-year-old vocalist and instrumentalist, plays mandolin in a five-man bluegrass gospel band called Barry Scott & Second Wind that was nominated for a Grammy© in Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album category.

Son of the late Free Will Baptist missionary to Mexico, James Munsey, Matthew and his wife Juliana, an International Business student at FWBBC, will fly to California January 30 for the Grammy© Awards. Munsey auditioned for Barry Scott & Second Wind three years ago, and now travels weekends with the group, typically logging 1,200 or more miles performing in concerts as well as local churches.

“We were honored but surprised to receive the nomination,” Munsey said, “since this was our first album. Our debut project titled ‘In God’s Time’ is a 14-song collection released by Rebel Records. We are just one of five groups nominated for a Grammy© in this category, and we give God all the praise for the unexpected national recognition.”

Munsey is a second-generation FWBBC student. His father, the Reverend James Munsey, graduated in 1981. Younger sister Rachel is a freshman Education major. Another sister, Laura, graduated in 2005.

Matthew received his first guitar at age seven, his first mandolin at age 11. He also plays the banjo and the bass. He grew up on the Texas/Mexico border playing and singing with the Munsey family bluegrass gospel band, and traveling extensively to promote Mexico missions. He graduated from Tusculum College in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in organizational management, before relocating to Nashville and enrolling at FWBBC to pursue a degree in Missions.

“My wife Juliana and I are excited about preparing to serve the Lord on the mission field,” Munsey said. “We don’t know where we will serve yet, but we will finish our degrees in two or three years, and step through whatever door God opens.”

Matthew was elected 2009-2010 student body worship leader at FWBBC. He currently does 90 percent of the booking for Barry Scott & Second Wind, and maintains the group’s website (www.barryscottonline.com). The band hopes to play the Grand Ole Opry in 2010 and is working with Free Will Baptist missionaries to arrange a tour of Japan.

The popular bluegrass gospel group usually performs a 90-minute set at weekend festivals or other venues, in addition to scheduling services in local churches. “We play a lot of Free Will Baptist churches,” Munsey said. The group plans to release its first a cappella album in February with Munsey singing baritone. Half the songs are recorded in four-part Southern Gospel harmony and half as instrumentals.

The band was nominated for Bluegrass Gospel Group of the Year (Contemporary) at the 36th Annual SPBGMA Music Awards (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America).

Matthew’s younger sister Rachel will likely face a kidney transplant in a few years, her second transplant. “I am committed to testing to see if I qualify as a donor when the time comes,” he said. “That’s on down the road, and it’s in God’s hands. Right now, I’m playing with the band on weekends, studying to complete my FWBBC degree during the week, preparing to serve somewhere on a mission field, and trusting God to tell me when it’s time to move on and where to go.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BARRY SCOTT & SECOND WIND EARN Grammy® NOMINATION IN BEST SOUTHERN, COUNTRY OR BLUEGRASS GOSPEL ALBUM CATEGORY FOR IN GOD'S TIME

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (December 4, 2009)--Rebel Records of Virginia is proud to announce that In God's Time, the debut release from Barry Scott & Second Wind, is one of five albums nominated this year for a Grammy® award in the Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album category.

Scott, a veteran of the gospel music field who spent over seven years as a member of Doyle Lawson's Quicksilver group, produced the 14-song collection with an impressive band that includes Travis Houck on Dobro, Jason Leek on bass, Matthew Munsey on mandolin and Zane Petty on banjo. Adding to the exquisite vocal and instrumental arrangements were guest appearances by Vince Gill (vocals and guitar), Kenny Smith (guitar), Aaron Till (fiddles) and Ronald Inscore (mandolin).

"I'm shocked," said Scott when informed of the nomination. "I couldn't believe that we had been nominated for our debut album! We are very grateful to all those who voted for us and want to say that we owe everything to our Lord Jesus Christ. He has kept his hand on our little group since it started, and every blessing He gives us we want to give right back to him. We also want to thank Dave and Mark Freeman of Rebel Records for giving us an opportunity to play the music we love. They have been a great help and asset to this band."

The album (Rebel 1826) is distributed by Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) based in New York City.

Grammy Nomination!!!!!

Hello everyone!

There are times when you don't always know exactly what to say. Now is one of those times. We are torn and uplifted at the same time. It seems like God knows exactly what to give you when you need it the most. Sadly, we would like to announce that our longest band member besides myself will be leaving the group after almost 4 years. Jason Leek has been given a great opportunity to work for my former boss, Doyle Lawson. We are very proud of Jason and are in debt to him for all the hard work he has done for this band over the past few years. We want to wish him the best of success in his new job. We are currently looking for a new tenor singer. I know that God has the right person in line for our band and we are not a bit worried about it. He always provides.

On the up-side of things. We just found out this morning that our debut project on Rebel Records "In God's Time" has been nominated for a Grammy award. We have been nominated along side some great performers such as Tracy Lawrence and Jason Crabb. Details can be read here http://www.grammy.com/grammy_awards/52nd_show/list.aspx#11

We are just so honored for this recognition, but we want to set the record straight. We owe everything to our Lord Jesus Christ. He has kept His hand on our little group since it started, and every blessing He gives us we want to give right back to Him. We hope this can be a better opportunity to tell every one about the only thing that matters.

Thanks for all your support and prayers. Please continue to pray for us as we try to find the path that God has laid down for us. For those of you who voted for us, we give you our deepest appreciation. We also want to thank Mark and Dave Freeman from Rebel Records for giving us an opportunity to play the music we love. They have been a great help and asset to this band.

Keep checking up on us and come see us soon. We will be on the road a lot this year if the Lord is willing. We look forward to seeing you!

God bless,
Barry Scott & Second Wind

From the Road

Hi Folks!
Its the Ex-Heartthrob of Bluegrass here, Barry Scott! I'm just riding down the road on our bus watching some old Andy Griffith shows, and headed home from a great weekend. We were in Shepherdsville, KY Friday night at the Friday Night Music Show with my old buddy CR Wilson. I haven't been there since back in 2005 with DLQ, and it was great getting to catch up with some old friends.

We had some down time on Saturday and I got to go do my favorite past-time on the road, working out at the gym! I have gained 30 pounds since leaving Quicksilver and its driving me nuts! My metabolism sucks, as well as my genetics. Oh well! I will eventually lose it... I guess. We also had a practice session on Saturday to work up some new material we are real excited about for our show this Summer. By the way, if any of you have a song (any song, bluegrass, gospel, country, pop, etc., no rap! lol), let us know and we may try to work it into our show.

Sunday, we played two great churches in Kentucky and Indiana and had a wonderful time in the Lord. Our icing on the cake was getting to see our little buddy Isaac Moore and his family. Not only did he spend the whole weekend with us, but we were blessed to have him sing with us every show! He even got to ride on the Second Wind bus. Isaac is only 7 years old and has an amazing voice! He has already sung with Ralph Stanley, Doyle Lawson, Dailey & Vincent, and many others. Wow! You need to hear this kid!

We have one more special announcement for you. We have been featured in an article in the March issue of the Singing News gospel magazine written by my good friend Les Butler. Thanks Les for the great review of our new Rebel Records gospel project, "In God's Time." Please check it out.

Well, that's it for now. Thanks for your continued prayers and support for Second Wind. We hope to see you at one of our shows or a church soon! God bless!

Barry
